आदार:Interface translation
- This page is intended to be part of the Konkani Wiktionary.
This page aims to guide the reader to translate the Wikipedia or Wiktionary interface into Konkani. The Wikimedia Foundation requires that there has to be a continuing effort by the community to translate the MediaWiki interface.
Background
बदलWikipedia and Wiktionary use a software called MediaWiki. Each text item that appears in the MediaWiki interface is actually a text string known as a 'message'. These strings are translated into the desired language on a separate site, translatewiki.net . The translated messages are periodically imported into MediaWiki, and are used to display the interface in different languages.
Steps to be performed only for the first time or occasionally
बदलIf you already have an account on TranslateWiki and set your preferences, then you can skip this section and go directly to the next section.
- Create an account on the TranslateWiki site
- To get started, the first thing you need is a user account on translatewiki.net. Creating an account is done in less than a minute and is used to keep track of what you have worked on.
- On the TranslateWiki main page, you can create a temporary account by filling in a username, password and email address.
- To make it a permanent, translator account, please make some translations in any supported language (see Image 1). Note however, that these translations will be discarded after your account is approved.
- Set your language (see Image 2):
- To set your interface language, access your preferences page by clicking on 'Preferences' near your username at the top of the page or click on this link.
- Preferences -> User profile tab -> Internationalisation section -> Language
- Dont forget to click 'Save' at the bottom.
- Set suggestion languages
- You can choose to display messages on the edit screen in other languages, which can help you to get an idea of how to translate messages (purple arrow in Image 4).
- Preferences -> Editing tab -> Translation options section -> Assistant languages
- For example, to see suggestions from Romi Konkani, Devanagari Konkani, Marathi, Hindi and Portuguese languages, enter the following (see Image 3):
gom-latn, gom-deva, mr, hi, pt
- Dont forget to click 'Save' at the bottom.
